Elders in Africa are revered and respected and community events are expected to bring all ages together. In this spirit, we are holding our free Annual Salifest on 28 September 2019 at St Laurence Centre in Catford in memory of the late Salifou Sylla, a brilliant and extremely generous African musician and dancer. Eighty-year-old performers will share the stage with primary school children and everyone in between. There will be Drum and Dance workshops for all ages to learn and enjoy together, as well as food, stalls and displays of our work in Guinea, West-Africa.
Volunteer with us! Some of us running the festival are over 55 years old, and we welcome you to volunteer what you can manage with good support from us. We invite our Lewisham elders from all backgrounds to celebrate and to have fun together!
The charity Alanouwaly Salifou Sylla Foundation was formed in the memory of Salifou Sylla, a Lewisham resident when he died in a car crash in 2008. He was an amazing musician, dancer, personality, funny, and unbelievably generous!
