Contributors from London, Manchester and Tokyo (and across Japan) will come together to share best practice examples of cultural initiatives that support agency and active participation as we age. We will examine how cultural activity can support older people to remain active, valued and engaged citizens.
We will explore effective ways local authorities can work collaboratively with arts and culture partners to support the resilience and independence of frail and isolated older people.
Working in partnership with the GLA (Greater London Authority), we will bring together key thinkers and practitioners to speak of the city's potential to support the older, old: age friendly neighbourhoods, age friendly services, artists embedded in care homes, older cultural connectors, social prescribing and artistic day service models.
Contributors to the event will include Esme Ward, Sachiko Ukegawa and older adults from all three cities sharing practice examples. Director of Manchester Museum, Esme Ward is the Strategic Lead (Culture) for Age Friendly Manchester and the Greater Manchester Ageing Hub. Sachiko Ukegawa is a Senior Producer at Saitama Arts Theatre, home of the Saitama Gold Company, one of the world’s leading exponents of creative ageing.
